Dynamic squad named for National One finale at Birmingham!

AXEL Kalling-Smith will win his 50th National One cap when Rams visit Birmingham Moseley tomorrow (3pm) – as prop Terrel Harry and second row Liam Elston make their maiden starts.

Swedish captain Kalling-Smith, replete with 19 tries to date, lines up at outside centre with Rowan Grundy – man-of-the-match in the 19-13 victory against Richmond a fortnight ago inside him – while Fraser Honey again skippers the side from fly-half following success in his first two home games in the role versus Blackheath and Richmond.

Ed Hoadley completes the half-back pairing from a fortnight ago, while Charlie Robson and Henry Bird go from the off on the wings with Zach Clow at full-back to round out a triumvirate where the former and latter will be chasing the silver medal among seasonal try-scorers with 10 apiece to date.

Former Ealing Academy man Harry and Reading University ace Elston are the headline acts in the pack, Terrel joining Ant Marris and hooker and vice-captain Max Hayman – National One’s top try-scorer with 25 – at the head of the scrum.

Young prodigy Elston joins one of this term’s stand-out stars, Dan Swain, in the engine room, while another breakthrough performer Mike Hoyt is joined by debutant try-scorer Mikey Duda and last year’s Player of the Season, James McRae, in the back row.

There is plenty of talent to come off the bench with props Paddy Harris and Ryan Lomas ready to add impetus alongside Calum Scott, the latter one of the most impactful players in National One whether it be in the front or back rows.

Scrum-half Ollie Monye also fits the bill as a game-changer, while the 20-man squad is completed by another Reading University dynamo, full-back Finn Matthews who took man-of-the-match honours at home to Cinderford back in November.
