CHARLIE Robson scored four tries as Rams Titans eased to a 48-14 Raging Bull Shield Division One home win against Dorking A.
It was scrum-half Ollie Cole who opened the scoring for Titans on 16 minutes, picking up a loose ball just outside the Dorking’ 22 before some nice footwork and a strong hand-off ushered him over on the right.
However, the visitors struck back as prop Olly Rawlinson peeled off a close-range maul to crash over, Ben Mackenzie with the extras to nudge his side in front.
Rams replied, though, albeit with a stroke of good fortune as Jak Rossiter’s attempted long-pass was knocked into the hands of Finn Matthews to run in from 15 metres out.
Captain Tom Humberstone knocked over a brilliant conversion from the right, and he repeated the trick to help his side move further in front before the break after Rossiter scuttled over in the corner.
Robson opened his account and secured the try bonus-point early in the second period, the left wing left one-on-one with a would-be defender who he sharply stepped inside, Humberstone’s successful kick making it 26-7.
The skipper blotted his copybook slightly by picking up a yellow card for an infringement near his own line, and Dorking took advantage when Rawlinson powerfully carried over from some seven metres out, blasting down to the right of the posts to set-up an easy conversion.
The hosts responded quickly, however, Robson showcasing his trademark acceleration to scorch through a gap in midfield from midway inside the Dorking half.
The try-scorer’s conversion attempt was sweetly struck but pulled right of the target, but Robson completed his hat-trick not long after as Sean McDonnell-Roberts and Terrel Harry showed their handling skills to send Ryan Lomas hurtling towards the line.
And while he was stopped a metre shy, Robson had the simplest task of picking up the ball to touch down for 36-14 before his afternoon to remember continued with a fourth score.
It was Alex Sparkes who was the creator this time, ripping the ball on his own 10-metre line before scorching up the left, a brilliant out-the-back inside ball sending Robson over on the left from the 22.
The final word came from Matthews, the full back racing in from 70 metres for a conversion suitably added from in front of the posts by Robson.
Titans – who remain fourth in the table – visit Esher Cardinals on Saturday.
