Unlike England ‘Ensians under 13’s had a very convincing win against Reading with a final score of 83 – 0.

This score clearly highlights the strength of the ‘Ensians team who remain unbeaten this season, however, it does not evidence the competitive and gutsy performance of the visiting Reading team who must be congratulated on their sporting approach throughout the game which contributed to the enjoyment of all involved.

The significant try rate was nearly commenced right from the Reading kick off which unfortunately for Reading, like so many of their starts, went straight to Shane who made an individual darting run for the try line only to be tackled and spill the ball inches from his target.

The first try was scored by Scotty after 5 minutes between the posts after a very determined run from the 5 yard mark.

From the restart the ball was once again taken by Shane who again makes a run straight for the try line before being brought down by a crunching Reading tackle with the ball being cleared with a kick.

The second scrum of the game emphasised ‘Ensians dominance in this area and was won against the head by ‘Ensians. Once again Scotty at No 8 picked up the ball and made a run for the try line to score the second try at 9mins which must have been a deflating blow for Reading who also suffered an injury to one of their props resulting in the rest of the game being completed with uncontested scrums which I am sure neither team would have enjoyed.

It has to be said that the rest of the half continued with ‘Ensians dominance with a further 4 trys being run in and a total of 6 conversions being made in the half. That said, ‘Ensians do need to concentrate on their catching skills with many a fumbled ball leading to spills that the team could do well to avoid if they are to continue this undefeated run.

The second half started much where the first had left off with ‘Ensians being straight on the attack and scoring at 27 mins in a great passing move that found its way out to the wings where Jonny Rumble was able to make one of his powerful drives to complete the score. Unfortunately he was held out from the posts leaving a very difficult kick for the conversion which was narrowly missed by Andrew Hester despite being a great effort.

6 minutes saw the next try under the posts by Guy Sharp who pounced on a spilled ball to make one of those poaching trys so often seen from him.

Reading continued to make strong defensive tackles but tiredness was clearly getting to them and ‘Ensians run in a further 5 trys to make a second half try tally of 7. With only 3 of these second half trys being converted some more work needs to be done in this important area of the game especially when 3 of those missed kicks were from trys made between the posts.
