The Under 13 group has traditionally from the early mini years started slowly and built up momentum during the course of the season.

Ascension to the Junior ranks and the full size pitch stirred something as the slow start did not happen this time, as was evident from the start with David S putting over the first try in 3 minutes. 65 points from tries then flowed evenly throughout the game with 4 forwards, David S (2), Conner (1), Jordan (1), and Chris Hignell (1) and 4 backs, Callum, (2), Shane (3), Andrew H (2) and Ben (1) getting the touch downs at the end of each string of play.
8 Conversions from Matt (3), Guy (1), Andrew (2) made up the score.
Apologies from the scribe for reporting a lesser score (71-0) on the day, but must plead emotional incontinence as the notes clearly should the scorings as above!!

So what happened to make such a high score? The ball was called and caught from the restart after each kick from the centre spot.
The forwards provided a solid platform to obtain the ball from the scrum with several strikes against the head. The backs held their discipline and got into the correct attacking positions whilst waiting for the half backs to feed the ball out to them. The backs passed the ball to each other with good timing having drawn in the opposition players, and the Reds backs giving their team mates that space to run through the opposition line.
When the opposition had the ball, the half backs moved up quickly to force Aldershot mistakes, Reds forwards and backs alike got into their allotted tasks with good mauling and feeding to the backs to open up attacks. Kicks over the top were followed up, and uniquely not once did Reds get blown up for an off side offence!! Aldershot showed up with fewer reserves than Reds were able to field, and looked a smaller side, however they fought well to the end. It was the playing style, discipline and tactics that won the game for Redingensians.

It is a commendation to the whole team that 8 out of 13 of the tries scored were by the wingers and centres as it means that the whole team contributed to these scores.
It should be noted that this day was a Berkshire County training day and 4 players were missing from the squad, and whilst we are proud to make our contribution to the county, the score and play of this opening match shows the depth of ability in a team that does not have a dependency on particular players, and that the team pulled together to make a great start to the season.

After the game, the coaches decided that their Player of the Day was Christopher Hignell.
