Redingensians Rams vs Esher

We lined up to play Esher in our third match of the season on the 23rd with slightly reduced numbers due to County Training and a couple of other regulars on school trips.

The match started well with Max running in a try just a little too wide for conversion but it put us 5-0 up. Esher were then on the offensive and soon scored with a conversion to put them ahead. This was follwed by another couple of tries before the half time break, leaving us lagging 5-19.

We made a few changes at half time and had a better start to the second half. Sadly the change of referee didn't work in our favour and Esher went over the line again after a missed knock-on. Shortly after this, Esher kicked the ball from inside their 22 which was retrieved by an off-side player who went on to score!

We had a short break at 15 minutes and were 5-31 down. However, the boys came back out for the last 10 minutes and played some more determined rugby. Benjamin Smeeton and Max put in a couple of superb runs. Max was tackled into touch a little short of the line and Benjamin got over the line to have his try disallowed as he hadn't grounded the ball. He put in another great run shortly afterwards and scored a great try in the corner.

The final score of 10-31 didn't fully reflect the way the boys played or the evenness of the teams although, on balance, Esher were the better side on the day.
