Three tries and all converted!

A fourth home match in a row, this time against Trojans.

From the kick off 'ensians had the edge over a slightly sleepy looking Trojans team. Pierre got off to a good start by putting in a great run to score a try after just three minutes. Max seemed to have put his best kicking boots on that morning and converted from a slightly wide angle to take us 7-0 up. A second try followed quickly after this with Callum running in from half way and handing off three Trojans along the way. Max also converted this one to take is 14-0 up after 10 minutes.

This was the wake-up call Trojans needed and from here on they played with far more determination in their attacking moves and had a better organised defence. Despite their best efforts they couldn't break through, but neither could we. The score stayed 14-0 at half time.

The second half kicked off with a few changes for 'ensians and a clearly more focussed opposition. They started well and soon had an excellent run from just inside our half. The 'ensians defence held up and it went to a ruck. Trojans pushed hard and broke through. They were ultimately denied a try by grounding the ball just short of the line and then knocking on. Our scrum had been strong all day and we continued to take the pressure, this time on our 5m line. We won the ball and it was cleared by a cracking kick from Matt deep into the Trojans half.

By 45 minutes everyone was tiring and we finally thwarted their defence with a try from a Ben Spackman break away which was, again, converted by Max.

Despite being 14-0 down for most of the match, all credit is due to Trojans who remained competitive and throughout and kept us pinned inside our half for much of the final period.

Final score 21-0.

The boys had clearly been listening during training with much better rucking from the forwards and the props even making the break down a few times! The backs were largely untested but when they did get the ball we saw some positive play form them.

Our residency at OBR is over and we're away for the next couple of weeks as we venture forth to Marlow and Abbey.
