Good win against Vandals

A good match against the Weybridge Vandals on a lovely Sunday morning, once the mist had lifted. We saw some good performances from all the boys, despite being low on numbers with notable performances from Josh and newcomer Reece.

Redingensians started well with play mostly in the Vandals half for a good 5 minutes before Callum broke away and ran in a convincing try. Brad stepped up to tee in the absence of our usual kickers and struck the ball well to convert. Callum ran in another couple of tries after nicely evading the strong (and big) Weybridge defence. Redingensians continued to dominate with Brad, Pierre and Callum running in a try each. Redingensians had a commanding lead of 32-0 at half time.

Vandals re-grouped during the break and came out with renewed vigour and used their big forwards effectively, dominating the second half from the outset. The 'ensians boys were struggling to tackle the big opposition players and quickly lost the advantage with Vandals scoring 4 tries in the first 10 minutes. This put Weybridge well and truly back in the match. With 10 minutes left the advantage swung back to 'ensians when Callum dug the ball out of a ruck and ran in his fifth try, again converted. Vandals weren't giving up and put in a strong run to claw back 5 points. With just a couple of minutes remaining, things were getting tense. Vandals pushed forward taking play close to the Redingensians line where a combination of some good defensive play, and a little luck, the boys held off Weybride. In the final few seconds, following a penalty against 'ensians, Owen landed heavily on his back and remained on the deck, first aiders attended but with no time remaining everyone agreed to end the match with a final score of 39-29.
