The Under 13’s next away trip was to Newbury to play against their B team. We chose not to bring our County SoR players to make an even contest.

From the kick-off, the ball went to touch, and from a disrupted lineout ball came in to the centre where Jordan Willmott ran through the first try. Matt Kemp stepped up for the conversion and whilst waiting for the kicking tee to come on, he decided to drop kick successfully. Newbury 0; Redingensians 7

The next try came from sustained Redingensians pressure, ending up with a ruck close to the Newbury line and with a short pass from Jordan to Sam C-P, across the line for another try. The conversion was missed. Newbury 0; Redingensians 12

The forwards were instrumental in the next try. From a scrum, the ball went down the line and the forwards joined in rucking over where it was picked up by Matt Jones, and with the aid of the other forwards rumbled over to score another try. The conversion was missed. Newbury 0; Redingensians 17

Eventually the backs came into play. From open play the ball came down the line, where Ben Laflin took a pass 10 m inside his own half. He avoided three or four tackles and ran down the wing to score under the posts. Matt Kemp from the kicking tee converted try. Newbury 0; Redingensians, 24

For the last try before half time, both forwards and backs combined well together. From a scrum, about 10m out, the ball came down the line to Will Allum who forged his way through under the posts. The conversion was successful for Matt. Newbury 0; Redingensians 31

After half time, Redingensians played into the wind, but this did not seem to affect their performance. Again from loose play the ball was claimed by Ensians forwards who combined with the backs, where Ed Giles broke through a number of tackles to run in under the posts. A further success for Matt with the conversion. Newbury 0; Redingensians, 38

The next move again showed the superiority of the forwards. Sustained pressure through a number of phases, drove Newbury back towards their own try line, where the movement was halted. However, the ball was picked up by Sam, who took up a low position to borrow under the defence to touchdown. Matt again converted. Newbury 0; Redingensians 45

Following one of the few forays by Newbury into the Redingensians 22, the ball was kicked out and following a chase taken into contact. The ensuing ruck ball was recycled to the backs, passing through the hands to Ed, enabling him to burst through weak tackles and drop down under the posts. Matt succeeded with yet another conversion. Newbury 0; Redingensians 52.

The last try of the day came from loose defensive kick from Newbury, which was picked up by the backs, taken into contact, and recycled to Matt Jones, who handed off numerous tackles to touchdown for the second time, again under the posts. Matt's seventh conversion of the day was a success, and the last act of the game. Final score, Newbury ’B’ 0; Redingensians 57.
