Ensians continue to improve

The U13’s proved that last week’s victory against Abbey wasn’t a fluke, and put in yet another convincing performance against Ruislip.

Initially Ruislip looked like they would get an early try from one of their strong and pacey wingers but after 5 minutes of sustained defending Ensians began to dominate. Ryan was wining most of the line outs, timing his jumps to perfection. Dan B was loud and clear and it seemed that the boys were not only talking to each other, but listening to each other as well.

After some strong defensive work by Ruislip, Joe sliced through to score the first try. From the kick off, Ruislip could have easily got one back but Ensians had the return of John who helped them out, with some strong tackling.

18 minutes in, a slick move could have broken down, but a lucky bounce put the ball in James’s hands and he motored off scoring a try and followed with a conversion. James sensed that a free pint of orange juice and lemonade was coming his way and he put in an exceptional individual run for his second try and a conversion.

John marked his return to the team with a try and James converted so half time at 26 – 0.

Second half gave the coaches a chance to blood some of the newer players. Niall, Hamish and Scott, slotted in effortlessly (*). Ensians have yet another quick winger in Sam who was unlucky not to get an early try, however John scored his second of the day soon after.

Ruislip were looking much stronger in the second half and this was at time back to walls defending, however Sam pulled off a fantastic run to score his long awaited and well deserved try. Reigate scored a consolation try, which was reward for their hard work.

There was some excitement as we thought the warm weather had brought out a streaker, only to find it was Joe desperately trying to swap shirts with the substitute and take part in an attack.

Everyone agreed the rucking had been outstanding and although everyone had played well, the Backs deserved special praise and they were singled out by the Ruislip coach.

Ruislip’s Man of the Match spilt most of his drink and failed to put his glass on his head, so James won the drink off as well.

(*) sorry there was one other new player and I didn’t catch his name – you know who you are (!)
