U13s vs Basingstoke

On a very blustery day we arrived as Basingstoke somewhat short of
players ( we had 18 to be exact ), which meant that we could only field
a back line without subs.

We started off very brightly with some strong work from the pack and
the ball going all the way down the back line. One good move saw the
"returned " Ryan make a great run on the right wing.

Our first try came from a great burst from Josh on the 10m line, and
just before the try line he managed to cleverly off load to John to go
over. Jame D duly converted .

Our second try came from a bursting run from James D in the backs who
made it all the way from their 10m line, again he converted for us to
lead 14-0.

There was some good hands in the backs with Connor and Charlie working
well together and it was nice to see Iwan making a strong tackle.

At half time Basingstoke sunbstituted a number of their players and put
on some very large guys for the second half. Early on they ran in a
couple of quick tries, which was due to some poor tackling from our side
and possibly some fatigue.

James had a great effort at a penalty quick, which just fell short (
this would have given us back the lead )

Unfortunately we missed touch a couple of times on penalties which again
gave them the chance to run back at us with pace. We fought very hard
but they ran in a further 3 tries, although we camped on their try line
in the last 5 mins.

Ryan should be congratulated for making 2 very good tackles one after
another.

We found out later that Basingstoke had beaten their last oppoents 58-0.

Josh was voted our man of the match and duly won the drink off.

Apart from some missed tackles this was a great performance from
Ensians, expecially since we were so low on numbers.
