Seb Reynolds, Rams DoR, gives his thoughts ahead of a weekend of rugby at OBR and RAMS first home Nat 1 game.

On the first day of the season, in our first outing in National 2 South, we were well and truly beaten by a physical and ruthless Redruth side which taught us a chastening lesson in National level Rugby.

But did we learn, and four years later we achieved promotion to National 1, and we find ourselves today treading new new ground for any Rams side. Off the back of a satisfying and exciting 36 v 32 away win at Cambridge last Saturday - we now welcome Birmingham Moseley to OBR for our first ever fixture against them and our inaugural National 1 home match. That thought for me and the team is very exciting.
I’m delighted we’ve been able to secure virtually all of last year’s squad which is fantastic. We’ve also taken the opportunity to strengthen the squad in a few areas. We see home debuts today for Henry Bird from Old Redcliffians and former Bracknell mini/junior Connor Hayhow joins us from Rossyln Park.

Our second team Rams Titans also enjoyed success away at Cambridge with a comprehensive win 41 v 21 against the Wanderers. Here we saw the debuts for Cam Zeiss - prop from Esher, Tom Gulland from Peterborough Lions and Sam Moorby from Oxford University.

This week we see Dan Lewis a second row also receiving his first home league run out for the Titans. In addition to these players we have maintained our emphasis on championing local Berkshire talent. Fergus Walker - an exciting back from Newbury helped in the win along with Max Hayman, Alex Sparkes from the same club and Louis Ellis from Maidenhead, the latter three who represented Berkshire in this year’s Division 2 Final of the Jason Leonard Under 20’s Championship at Worcester Warriors Sixways stadium. We also welcome into our squad this season scrum half Jack Moates - formally a mini/junior at Newbury and Loughborough Students.

Our ladies side the Rams Sirens also achieved their first league win away at Marlow Ladies on Sunday 43 v 41 in a thrilling match. They host Aylesbury at home in the league tomorrow. Our 4th XV the Dragon’s Teeth start their league fixtures this weekend away at Thatcham 2.

I also had time last week to visit our youth section training on Wednesday night and it was fantastic to see all our minis enjoying the sunshine at OBR on Sunday. I wish all our teams the very best for the coming season and I hope you all enjoy 2019-20. And on a personal note, I have been involved with the club now for 28 years and I have never seen it as energetic and exciting as it presents itself today. I am truly honoured to be DoR of Rams RFC. I love this club and I am committed to helping push forward to even greater heights.

Lastly The Rams squad would like to thank all our supporters and we hope you enjoy today’s game. #RAMILY
