The Rams continued their run at the top of the Nat 2 South table with victory over Old Redcliffians away from home.

The away side never seemed out of control in what was a composed victory, and special mention has to go to Alex Seers who converted every try as well as a penalty in windy conditions.

With the arctic blast hitting Bristol, the Reading men did brilliantly well to come away with a win despite the tough conditions. Head coach, Seb Reynolds commented on the adverse weather after the game, saying, “It was a good performance, as this is such a tough place to play rugby, and it doesn’t ever seem to be dry here. You have to manage the slope down into both corners, as well as the wind against the clubhouse. Also, then you have to deal with a team who knows how to play good, hard rugby. I’ve got a lot of respect for what they do, and its credit to them that we’re so pleased with the win, because they’re a good side at home.”

Reynolds was also quick to praise individual performances within the Rams side, saying, “We had some excellent impacts on the side today, including, Olly Taylor, with his first run out as captain. ‘Old boy’ Andrew Amor in a really great performance with a starting spot for us put, and Michael Etete in the second row showed that he’s got some talent and we’ve got something to work with there so I’m really pleased for those guys.”

The Rams dominated the opening exchanges of the game, with the pack completely overwhelming that of the Old Redcliffians, and eventually getting their reward 10 minutes in, as they were awarded a penalty try to take the lead.
But the home side bounced back quickly, playing the ball down the line, and with Seers collecting, he attempted to clear the ball, only to miss kick it under the hot pursuit of the Old Redcliffians backs, who pounced on the ball over the try line to bring the game level at 7-7.

The Rams were unfazed by this setback and immediately dominated another scrum, winning themselves a penalty line out 5 yards out, but the move quickly fell apart. But the away side came storming forward once again, scoring two more tries in quick succession, both in similar fashion, going through the phases and forcing the ball over the line.

With Old Redcliffians falling behind on the scoreboard, the referee added further to their woes with McGrath receiving a yellow card.
However, this did not seem to affect the men from Bristol significantly as they went on to enjoy their most promising period of the half, but they were unable to reflect this on the scoreboard as the half ended 7-21.

After a quiet start to the second half, the Rams resumed where they had left off in the first, gaining ground methodically and going through the phases relentlessly to take the ball over the line. The Old Redcliffians were not deterred, as they came flying forward with quick hands and explosive pace, and Bird eventually burst through a gap in the Rams defence and sidestepped Corrigan to bring the home side within two tries of their opponents.
However, any spark of a comeback was quickly extinguished by the ruthless Rams, as they completed an impressively powerful 25 yard drive to the line and Steadman placed the ball over the line from the back of the mall for the Rams fifth of the game
The Old Redcliffians responded with a try for their man, Ed Boxall, but it was only consolation as Seers converted a penalty in the final few minutes to put the cherry on top of an established performance by the Rams, leaving the final score at 21-38.
Rams are looking forward to their next fixture at home on Saturday 3rd November against another Bristol side - Dings Crusaders.
