Getting to know the Sirens' co-captain!

Year joined: 2018

Role: Sirens’ player – normally flanker – and bar staff member on matchdays.

Best rugby memory: Nelson Mandela presenting the Rugby World Cup to Francois Pienaar after the 1995 final. Seeing South Africa come together as a rainbow nation after years of apartheid was inspirational.

Worst rugby memory: Covid-19 and injury – basically anything which stops me playing competitively!

Favourite food: Anything Italian, but hold on the fungi and gorgonzola.

Favourite drink: A white Burgundy in the summer (especially Macon Village), a gutsy-oaked red wine in winter and a pint of Moretti after a game or a long shift behind the bar.

Favourite travel destination: Cornwall, Sweden or Japan – there happened to be a World Cup on for the last one and I loved the food, culture, history and nature.

Favourite Rams try: It’s not a try, but it felt like one! Ollie Taylor’s line-out steal at Chinnor to secure the win earlier this year.

Favourite ever try: As a young rugby enthusiast, Jonah Lomu in the World Cup semi-final against England – beating two men then steamrolling Mike Catt to score.

Also, Thierry Dusautoir in the 2011 final against New Zealand.

France didn’t have their best campaign and many believed they didn’t deserve to be in the final due to the semi against Wales.

In true Les Bleus style they proved themselves on the day, and the second-half try by the captain cut the gap to 8-7 and just maybe France’s first World Cup victory.

Alas it wasn’t to be, but it was m first experience of heart palpitations - that’s what being a French rugby fan does to you!

Favourite ever player(s): Raphael Ibanez – rugby runs through his veins as a captain, player, coach, pundit, management.

Also, Jonny Wilkinson.

Favourite current player: All the Sirens squad!

Also, in the Under 15s, Lucy Simpson has an amazing future ahead of her – terrific skills and she has an infectious smile and attitude both on and off the pitch.

Other hobbies: Walking the dog and taking her on holidays. Horse riding, gardening and cooking anything new!

Favourite TV show: Any kind of crime drama, but especially Killing Eve and Elementary.

Favourite musician: Emily Sande.

Favourite song: Drops of Jupiter by Train, and The Battle by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator soundtrack).

Favourite rugby ground(s): Old Bath Road and The Rec in Bath – amazing location, architecture and atmosphere.

Second team: Bordeaux Begles.

Favourite other sports: Polo, tennis, eventing and golf.

One rule change you'd make in rugby: A one-handed interception attempt should not be deemed a deliberate knock-on – it reduces the motivation to go for it!

Best thing about Rams RFC: The Ramily. Anyone who supports or is involved with any of the teams always seems to give you a warm welcome.
