No. 13: Chinnor 16-10 Rams (January 21, 2017)

Rams fell to a third consecutive defeat at the start of 2017 in a hard-fought clash in which the defences were generally on top.

An early Basil Strang penalty gave the home side the lead, and he doubled their advantage with a second three-pointer.

Rams cut the deficit with a Sam Guttridge kick on 20 minutes, but Strang’s virtuoso display then continued as he grabbed his side’s only try of the afternoon before knocking over the conversion.

Luke Hibberd then had a try disallowed for a forward pass, but Strang kicked another penalty to extend Chinnor’s lead to 16-3 at half-time.

Home prop Jack Tyack was sin-binned midway through the second period, and Rams capitalised as a beautiful cross-kick from Ollie Foxley was hoovered up by Jak Rossiter, who showed his pace to burst away and score.

Spike Chandler slotted the conversion, but the visitors were unable to fashion any more scores and had to settle for a losing bonus-point.
