Wing scored with final touch in junior rugby during Newbury win!

TWO-TRY Callum du Preez hailed the special bond the Colts have built after they sealed the OBB Division One title with a 68-7 home win against Newbury.

The wing’s final act in junior rugby was to score the final try, having got the show on the road with the opener inside the opening five minutes.

Further first-half scores from Cameron Oakley and Matt Hill, added to by Matt Cox, had Rams 21-0 up before their opponents grabbed a converted try just before the interval.

But the home team pulled away after the break, Patrick Brown, Jack Mander, Theo Pett-Ridge, Louis Roumignac, Finlay Wells, Cox and finally du Preez all touching down to seal the deal.

And Bulmershe School student Callum said: “It was a brilliant performance and it’s amazing to be champions, and to score with my last touch was a great feeling.

“The whole season has been fantastic, we’ve formed a special bond throughout the season and it’s been really enjoyable.

“They are mates more than teammates, both years have come together and it’s been lovely.”

Winning the league unbeaten came on the back of a sensational National Cup run which saw the team win five matches to reach the semi-finals, ultimately going down as a strong Dorking side.

And Callum, who is set to join the Army after finishing his studies, was quick to praise those behind the scenes who have spent hours helping the Colts excel.

He ended: “The coaches have been amazing throughout the season, they’ve put in so much effort and winning this is thanks to them.

“It was also great to have so many people watching and thank you to them as well.”
