RAMS Colts will look to cap off a memorable season by winning OBB Division One at home to Newbury on Sunday (2.30pm).
In a stunning campaign which saw them reach the semi-finals of the National Cup, Dave Cox’s side have also won all seven of their league games so far to leave them on the brink of glory.
Things started with a 29-12 success against Bracknell, Aiden Pugh at the double with Jack Mander, Ollie Ireland and Patrick Brown also crossing the whitewash and Matt Cox knocking over a couple of conversions.
One of the performances of the season came in Round Two, a 38-7 victory against nearest rivals Chinnor.
First-half tries from Luke Thorpe and Mander were added to after the break by Brown, Cox with the extras for 17-0.
He repeated the trick after Mander grabbed his second, Chinnor replying with a converted score of their own.
But it was Rams who finished stronger, Mander completing his hat-trick and Thorpe doubling up as Cox slotted two more kicks to complete the scoring.
Next up were pre-season title favourites Windsor, but Rams upset the odds with a 15-12 away win.
Mander opened the scoring before Cox converted a second try, and despite a rally from the home side, the fly-half’s penalty ultimately proved the match-winner.
A fourth straight win arrived with a hard-fought 27-7 triumph at Oxford Harlequins.
An Obi Nwachuku gave the visitors the lead before Quins replied for a 7-5 half-time lead.
Rams, however, clicked into gear in the second period, Cox landing a penalty before Nwacuku’s second and further tries from Thorpe and Brown sealed the bonus-point.
The biggest win of the season came in a pre-Christmas 48-0 success at Maidenhead, Theo Pett-Ridge, Jayden Benham, Mander and Jake Scott touching down before the break.
Thorpe landed two conversions for 24-0, and his side repeated that score in the second period, Finay Wells, Cameron Oakley going over as Josh Jones bagged a brace.
The league leaders were made to work hard for a sixth win on the spin as they overcame hosts Marlow 12-8.
After falling behind to an early penalty, Rams got their noses in front through a Jones try, only for Marlow to respond to make it 8-5.
However, the visitors regained the lead as Pett-Ridge touched down, Cox with the extras, and a resilient defensive effort then secured the win.
Most recently derby honours were secured in a 38-14 home victory against Reading Abbey.
Ireland grabbed an early opener which Cox converted, the stand-off again on target after Mander went over for 14-0.
Ireland and Cian Tappan secured the bonus after the break, Cox extending his record to four from four, and Pett-Ridge then crossed for 33-0.
Abbey hit back with a try before Ivory claimed over for the hosts, only for their opponents to have the final work with a late consolation.
All support for Sunday’s game is welcome on what will be a busy day at Old Bath Road, part two of the Minis Festival taking place in the morning.
