Gus Davies hat-trick steers Rams to seventh successive bonus victory

A Gus Davies hat-trick steered Rams to a seventh successive National 3 South West bonus point victory to boost their promotion bid.
Davies, one of four enforced changes from the side which beat Exmouth away, believes Rams can make an impact in the next league up.
After the 43-22 win, the 24-year-old Welshman said: “I shall be really disappointed if we don't get promotion. I’m sure we could finish halfway up Division 2 South, then who knows what could happen?”
Number eight Davies, speaking from experience, played for Loughborough Students in League 2 North and Welsh Premier side Bedwas.
He was deputising for Jamie Guttridge, another former Loughborough Student, and had plenty to prove.
Unavailable Guttridge had collected ten tries in his last five outings but Davies started in determined fashion and opened the scoring for Rams after nine minutes with a pushover try.
Although the Sonning men had the upper hand, they were unable to make a further breakthrough until the 29th minute when lively winger Ollie Poole went over after Rams swung an attack from left to right.
Lock James Hughes added another touchdown from a short yardage lineout before Lewis Dennett narrowed the arrears with a penalty for a 15-3 interval score line.
Relegation candidates Bournemouth were dominated in most areas, especially the scrum. However they battled back with a Joe Rees try after 44 minutes following missed home tackles.
Rams quickly replied when fly-half Luke Flower nipped in for a touchdown following intense forward pressure and James Brooks landed the first of four conversions which took him over the 150-point mark this campaign.
Then Davies struck twice to put the game beyond the Seasiders’ reach, from first a strike against the head then a lineout.
Bournemouth kept going and efforts from Sam Parker and Connor Scott gave the score line a more respectable look despite a response from new recruit Sam Black, sent over by fellow lock Tom Bryson.
Redingensians coach Mike Tewkesbury felt that the margin of victory could have been greater but for a lack of composure.
He said: “We were dominant but needed to be more patient. However the four players who came into the team - Davies, Tom Vooght, Ross Crame and Olly Mann - all did well and showed our strength in depth.”
Also front row Jon Lischetski, another local product, came on as replacement to make his debut.

Duffellen, Poole, Bryant, Mann, Dampies, Flower, Brooks, Weller, Crame, Baker, Bryson, Amor, Vooght, Davies. Reps: LIschetski, Black, Foxley.
