Mum Nicky praises 'many, many wonderful people' after phenomenal response to daughter's illness

NICKY Foxley has thanked the ‘many, many wonderful people in the world’ who have so far raised almost £200,000 towards providing potentially life-saving treatment for her daughter Elara.

Brave three-year-old Elara had seemingly overcome the devastating blow of being diagnosed with neuroblastoma - a rare and aggressive childhood cancer – after some nine months of treatment, only for the cancer to have returned in her spine and brain a fortnight ago.

While medical consultants in the UK believe they can merely attempt to manage the cancer, international trials in the USA and Spain have given hope to the family, prompting Nicky’s bid to raise £241,000 in a bid to try and save Elara’s life.

The duo were guests of Rams at the home game with Richmond last January, while Elara’s dad Olly scored 21 tries for the club as they rose through National Three South West and National Two.

Members of the Ramily are among the astonishing near 7,000 donors who have contributed to the fundraiser, with less than £50,000 now to go.

And following an operation on Elara last Friday, an overwhelmed Nicky said: “Elara is recovering after a 6hr surgery on her spine today. A biopsy was obtained, which is really great, now we wait to find out results to get started on the most suitable treatment path.

“Elara is doing well since the op. No immediate concerns to any of the nerves and was her happy, jolly self immediately! She has amazed everyone. I'm so very proud of her.

“I am simply astounded by the generous donations and the loving support Elara and I are receiving. I manage to read through all our kind messages and it is so heart-warming and really gives me strength.

“I tell Elara that there are many, many wonderful people in this world that are helping her get some more very important super powers.

“Now for a quiet weekend in hospital while Elara recovers.

“Thank you for your support.”
