Rams Rugby Club’s brand new kitchen facilities, now in place thanks to Grundon Waste Management and the Landfill Community Fund, were put to the toughest test by professional chef, Simon Denton, of London’s Zafferano Catering company. Simon prepared the meal for the Rams Annual Awards Ball at Old Bath Road under the close inspection of Grundon’s Estates Director, Andrew Short who came to launch the recently completed facility.
Rams are delighted they now have a fully refurbished kitchen facility capable of providing for the catering needs of 5 adult men’s teams; a women’s team and 400 mini/juniors members. The new facility is equipped with a modern ventilation and extraction systems; catering ovens capable of cooking 200 meals in minutes and an energy and water saving dishwasher. The clubhouse and kitchen are also available for use by other community users.
The Rams Annual Awards Ball were held at Old Bath Road in May with 160 guests attending to see Rams stars presented with the end of season prizes for Best Player, Captain’s Player, Best Tackler and Top Try Scorer. Presentations were also made for Coach of the year, Volunteer contribution and Young Player of the Year.
Simon Denton asked the top players from the Rams 1st XV to help prepare the evening menu of Ham Hock and apple chutney; Lake District Chicken, Colcannon Potatoes and spring vegetables and a Valrona Chocolate Mousse.
Rams Centre - Steve Bryant; Top tackler and Flanker Tom Vooght and Winger Connor Corrigan thoroughly enjoyed helping with the preparations and tasting the meal.
Andrew Short, said “Supporting communities in and around our locations is really important to Grundon and we were delighted to provide a helping hand with a grant for £30,000. Rams do a great job in encouraging and promoting sport for all ages and now they have smart new facilities to help feed everyone who’s worked up an appetite. In addition, the fact the kitchen can be used by the whole community makes it a real win-win.”
Rams Chairman, Andy Lynch said “We have struggled with our old, failing kitchen and equipment for years and this facility is something we have been raising funds towards for some time. We are immensely grateful to Grundon and the Community Landfill Fund as their vital contribution made this new kitchen a reality.”
