HAT-TRICK HERO BICKNELL BLASTS BERKSHIRE PAST MIDDLESEX

HAT-TRICK HERO BICKNELL BLASTS BERKSHIRE PAST MIDDLESEX

Rich Ashton20 Mar - 11:00

Six tries in three county games for on-song hooker!

HARRY Bicknell continued his incredible scoring streak with a stunning hat-trick to lead Berkshire Under 20s to a third successive victory, the Royal County overcoming Middlesex 48-17 at Maidenhead.

The hosts took the lead with a converted try midway through the opening quarter, doubling their lead soon after as Reading University student George Tomlinson added the extras to Bicknell’s first.

It was 19-0 after 20 minutes before Bicknell doubled up, Tomlinson landing his third successful conversion of the opening half.

Middlesex got on the board soon after, but Berkshire responded as another Uni ace, Alec Formela went over, Tomlinson on target, before Bicknell completed his hat-trick to make it 38-7 at the break.

It was a sixth score in three Berkshire games for the hooker – who joined Rams from Windsor in the summer and tops the Development XV’s try tally at Old Bath Road – with his side pulling further clear in the 49th minute as Reading’s James Barker-Lopez crossed the whitewash.

Things got better when Windsor No. 8 Will Moss claimed the hosts’ eighth try of the afternoon, Middlesex replying with a brace of final-quarter scores as they kept going to the end.

In-form Berkshire begin their Jason Leonard County Championship campaign against Oxfordshire at Rams on Sunday, March 30 (2pm), before heading to Dorset & Wiltshire on April 27.
