HISTORY-MAKER LUCY SET FOR ENGLAND DEBUT

HISTORY-MAKER LUCY SET FOR ENGLAND DEBUT

Rich Ashton7 Apr 2023 - 07:30

Junior Siren set to star in Six Nations Festival!

SENSATIONAL Lucy Simpson will make history this morning as she becomes the first girl to achieve England honours having come through the Rams’ youth section.

The talented hooker, who has also been part of the Wasps programme before moving onto Hartpury College/Gloucester Hartpury, will make her debut at the England Under 18s Six Nations Festival at Wellington College.

Lucy – who still helps as a ball girl on first-team matchdays – is a replacement for the opener against Wales (10am) before starting versus Scotland (11am), with England then set to play Ireland (11am) and Italy (3pm) on Tuesday.

They complete the tournament against France next Saturday (4.30pm).

England coach James Cooper said: “Congratulations to all players selected. Competing in a Six Nations tournament – at any level – is a prestigious achievement that these young women should be proud of.

“The squad has trained consistently well since we came together as a group last year and they put in an excellent performance against Wales last month. But we also know the team we face in the tournament opener won’t be the same as the one we beat at Rugby School, so the girls need to be at their best on Friday.

“Five matches across three match days is a unique, but the players have prepared well, they’re hungry for it and ready.”
