JOB OPPORTUNITY: HEAD OF STRENGTH & CONDITIONING – RAMS RFC

Location: Reading, Berkshire
Contract Type: Part-Time (with potential for growth)
Start Date: July 2025

Rams RFC, are seeking a committed and knowledgeable Head of Strength and Conditioning (S&C) to lead the physical performance programme across its senior and development squads.

? Role Overview

The Head of S&C will lead the design, delivery, and monitoring of physical preparation programs, working closely with coaching and medical teams. This includes strength and conditioning training, recovery, load management, and integrated return-to-play protocols.

The role will also contribute to the long-term development of player pathways within the club.

āœ… Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver periodised gym and field-based S&C programmes aligned with rugby performance goals.

Lead all aspects of physical preparation and monitoring across the senior squad and wider performance group.

Provide match day support including warm-ups, monitoring, and recovery strategies.

Collaborate with medical staff on player rehab and return-to-play processes.

Develop and implement systems that support long-term athlete development and player progression within the Rams pathway.

Monitor athlete wellness, workload, and progression using performance tools.

? Essential Requirements

BSc in Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science, or related field (MSc desirable).
UKSCA or NSCA (CSCS) accreditation (or working toward).

Experience coaching in a rugby performance environment.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

EFARU or equivalent first aid qualification (or willingness to complete prior to season start).

? Desirable Attributes

Familiarity with performance monitoring systems (e.g., GPS, wellness tracking).
Experience supporting the physical development of players across a range of ages and stages.
Comfortable leading small teams or working alongside interns and support staff.
