RAMS’ Junior Sirens showed off their new kit and some dazzling skills at a Ready4Rugby tournament on Sunday.
The Under 13s, U15s and U18s (forming a team in combination with Bracknell) were joined at hosts Reading by teams from Henley, Abbey, Bracknell and Gosford All Blacks.
And Sirens co-ordinator Luke Simpson said it had been a day to remember.
He beamed: “The weather was ideal and the quality of rugby displayed made the coaches and parents happy.
“Having spoken to (manager) Graham Oakley, the U13s displayed their skills of passing and continuity and made many more passes than any opposition.
“In the U15s, the handling skills sometimes reached the sublime and gained many admiring comments. All but one of the girls managed to score which reflects on a very balanced team performance.
“The U18s, who are really all U16s, played with passion and although it was tough against some older girls, they managed to display their ability to innovate, scoring some tries from accurate kicking and chasing.”
Before the action started, the girls were presented with their new kit, kindly donated by Courtiers.
And Luke said: “The girls were very impressed.
“We all want to thank Courtiers for their support and sponsorship of the shirts - as I expected the true reward and value of the new shirts was revealed by the joy the girls showed when they got to play in them.”
Luke also thanked Sirens’ senior players Annie Cowen and Sandra Bernard for assisting the U18s, and paid tribute to five of the juniors who also helped referee and provide support to the Rams’ Minis U9s intra-club tournament early in the morning.
Meanwhile, Rams photographer Paul Clark added: “I was hugely impressed by the girls’ skills, but the abiding memory was the smiles on show.”
