RAMS Titans returned to winning ways with an emphatic 64-7 victory at an injury-hit Henley Bulls in Division One of the HALBRO Raging Bull Shield.
The visitors made early inroads as a fine off-load out of the tackle from Scott Harman freed his fellow wing Seb Rennell to cross on the left, the final member of the back three, Tim Townsend, adding the extras.
The hosts were particularly short of recognised forwards, and having shown the power of their rolling maul when going from the halfway line into the Henley 22, Titans picked up a second when Ryan Lomas touched down following a powerful surge from a line-out five metres out.
Rams moved further in front when Colin Thomson powered over from close range, Townsend adding the extras for 19-0.
The bonus-point was then secured in spectacular fashion as Mana Cakau charged some 30 metres before being stopped short of the line, only for his off-load to find Ollie Monye who in turn flicked the ball on for prop Terrel Harry to deftly scoop it up before wriggling over on the right.
Townsend landed a terrific touchline conversion to put his side 26-0 up at the interval, and Titans moved further in front when a nice inside ball from Tom Humberstone found Spencer Hayhow to power over from close range.
With Townsend again on target it was 33-0, but the hosts continued to fight and got on the scoreboard when Rhyan Scott-Young raced down the right from halfway before cutting inside for a converted try.
However, that was as good as it got for the Bulls, and Rams replied as Monye rounded off a spectacular score created by Mike Hoyt’s stunning break and back-of-the-hand off-load.
The conversion made it 40-7, and Titans’ seventh try came when replacement flanker Guy Howson picked up a loose ball to run in under the posts from 10 metres out.
After Townsend converted, Liam Goodison showed some quick thinking to grab his first try for the club – the second row taking a quick tap penalty before racing in from just outside the Henley 22 to bring up the half century.
Tom Humberstone then scored a wonderful individual try, collecting a Joe Booth pass ball on halfway before combining some elusive running and power to touch down, Townsend with the extras for 59-7.
Booth was again the creator for the final try, his searing break from inside his own half taking Titans well into the Henley 22, and after Craig Nightingale was stopped just short, skipper Stevie Bryant got the ball down from close range.
The only negative for Rams was a serious injury to Kieran Leicester - all at the club wish him a speedy recovery.
