MATCHDAY SPONSOR - BOYES TURNER

Rich Ashton22 Mar 2023 - 08:45

Learn a bit more about the law firm and stalwart ex-player Derek Ching!

Name: Derek Ching

Company: Boyes Turner

First year of sponsorship: Longstanding!

What our business does: Solicitors.

Why we sponsor Rams: To support a valuable community organisation - and to put something back in after 25 years as a player.

Favourite Rams match: Henley away in 2019 - an epic last-minute win!

Worst Rams match: Playing for the 1sts against Wootton Bassett many years ago and nearly breaking my neck tackling the opposition full back's hip (and we lost).

Favourite Rams try: Loads of fantastic tries to choose from, but still happy to remember that last-minute try at Henley.

Favourite Rams player(s): James Baker – because he transforms the scrums.

Favourite ever try (any rugby): One of mine!

Length of the pitch playing for the Horde v Reading Vets.

Team mates said they had time for a cuppa because I took so long to reach the try line.

Favourite ever player (any rugby): Mike Teague from Gloucester. Hard as nails flanker!

Favourite food: Sunday lunches.

Favourite drink: London Pride.

Favourite travel destination: Appin, Argyll.

Favourite TV show: -

Favourite musician: Led Zeppelin.

Favourite song: Any of the above, but probably Stairway to Heaven.

Favourite rugby ground(s): Kingsholm, Gloucester – for the intensity of an old-style ground and the knowledgeable commentary from the Shed.

Favourite other sports: Cricket.

One rule change you'd make in rugby: No crocodile tails at rucks.

Apply the laws on not flopping over at the breakdown and straight feeding into the scrum for goodness sake!

Best thing about Rams RFC: Being part of a community - plus some damn good rugby.
