Redingensians Centaurs 62 - 10 Reading Abbey 2’s.

It was important for the squad to get back on track today, and this was achieved in fine style in a rampant first half display.

5 - 0 The ever youthful Flynn scored a fine break away try. The forwards worked hard to regain the ball from an early Abbey attack. The ball was shipped to full back Flynn who blasted down the line from his own 22 outstripping the defence to score a fine try.
7 - 0 Converted well from wide out by A. Leicester.
12 - 0 Winger Wilkinson scored a nice one when he cut back against the grain and blasted through, after a period of good attacking play from the home side.
14 - 0 A Leicester converted.
17 - 0 A Leicester penalty in front of the posts.
22 - 0 The forwards were now performing confidently, working hard fro each other and keeping the ball alive well. Flynn broke to time a perfect pass to winger Blythe who scorched down the line to score.
24 - 0 A Leicester converted.
29 - 0 The bonus point try came with just 25 minute played. Another cracker from Flynn. Unconverted.
34 - 0 Skipper Rose was replaced by K Leicester as he opened up an old gash in his knee. He was delighted to see his replacement score a good try, set up by winger Wilkinson.
39 - 0 The final score of the half came from flanker Dias with another break away try from his own half.
41 - 0 Converted by A Leicester.

This had been a fine first half display. Scrum held good and whilst the lineout wobbled a little, there has enough good ball for scrum half Gough to release his backs at pace.

Half time refreshment went down well.

46 - 0 Blythe scored his second of the afternoon after A Leicester made a fine break. Flynn and Wilkinson were also up in support, but Blythe did the honours.
48 - 0 A Leicester split the sticks.
53 - 0 From a fine clearance kick by Abbey, Flynn reacted quickly to restart play from the sideline, picking out K Leicester, now on the wing who seemed to sink his way through the entire Abbey squad before touching down under the posts.
55 - 0 A Leicester converted.
55 - 5 Abbey scored the first of two consolation tries when, despite repeated warnings from the ref, the home side played the ball from an offside position. They tapped quickly to score. Unconverted.
60 - 5 Flanker Rae who undoubtedly has the knack of being in the right place at the right time, scored a lively try.
62 - 5 Converted by AL
62 - 10 The final consolation try of the match to Abbey.

It was good for the squad to get the show well and truly back on the road, in a fine team performance. Backs running with confidence and at pace. Ball carriers doing their thing. Players worked hard to support each other. Tackling generally very solid. Great to watch.

Well done to man of the match Taylor. Many thanks to those that came out to support and to Abbey who played the game in great spirit. Thanks also to ref Lee who kept things rolling well.

Quotes of the week;

• Coach Tichband; “I see that Taylor has a new scrum cap…or is that a bath cap?”.
• Assorted subs on the touchline as forward Clark soared into the sky to secure lineout ball; “it’s like lifting a feather duster compared to most of the others”.
• Scrum Half Gough, after the game; “it was good to see the moves that we have done in training coming good”.
• Captain Rose during warm up; “lunges next lads, towards Jason’s house" (Sunrise Care Home)
• Ethel and Betty watching from the second floor of the Sunrise Care home; “ blimey Betty, and shiver me timbers, whats Leicester had for lunch, he’s slotting everything"
