NATIONAL ONE ROUND-UP - WEEK 10

Rich Ashton19 Nov 2024 - 12:30

Richmond, Titans, Mose, Dings, Stortford and Esher victorious!

SECOND-PLACED Richmond ground out a 20-15 victory at Plymouth Albion as they retained their unbeaten start.

Callum Grieve converted an Alex Schwarz try to put the visitors 7-0 up at the break, but a converted Tom Putt score levelled things for Albion before Grieve landed a brace of penalties.

The full-back’s boot was again true after substitute scrum-half Luc Jones went over, ‘Mond now in control with a 13-point buffer.

Plymouth battled, however, and Putt was on target following a Craig Duncan try, but the former’s late penalty was only enough to secure a losing bonus-point.

Rotherham Titans continued their terrific campaign with a topsy-turvy 35-30 win at Sedgley Park.

A Rob Povey try, added to by Lloyd Hayes, nudged the away side in front before Tigers cut the gap through a Rhys Henderson five-pointer.

The sides exchanged converted tries through Rotherham’s Jack Bergmanas and Andy Riley, Warren Seals’ kick cutting the deficit to 14-12.

The fly-half landed a penalty to nudge Sedge in front, and they moved further clear with an Adam Mallinson try before Hayes slotted a three-pointer to make it 20-17 at half-time.

Henderson made it 12 for the season as Seals was on target again, but Titans rallied with tries from Zak Poole and Luke Cole, the latter converted, pushing the visitors two points ahead.

And with Hayes then landing two more penalties, one from Seals was only enough for Sedge to pick snatch a losing bonus to go with their try one as they slipped into the bottom three.

Rosslyn Park’s six-match winning run was snapped as hosts Birmingham Moseley won a thriller 27-26 thanks to Ollie Allsopp’s last-play converted try.

James Corden-Reddy’s try put the Londoners in front, and after Jack Jolly landed a penalty for Mose, Matt Woodward was next to cross for the visitors, Josh Bragman with the extras.

More success from the tee followed Archie Hosking’s try, but Mose stayed in the contest as Jolly added to Ben Pogson’s effort for 19-10 at the interval.

The same combination cut the deficit to two before Jolly’s second penalty edged the hosts in front, Park regaining a 26-20 advantage through Jasper Cameron and Bragman before Tommy Taylor’s crucial final kick after Allsopp’s intervention.

Dings Crusaders won their mid-table clash with visitors Sale 31-15.

An early Will Hunt penalty put the Northerners in front in the second minute, but their opponents responded quickly as Fin Fielder was on target following a George Boulton try.

A Tom Walsh five-pointer put the Dogs back in front, but the lead changed hands again before the break as Sol Taufa went over for Crusaders.

Boulton converted his own try and one from Taufa for 64-8, before Josh Brown and Hunt gave Sale hope, only for Ollie Smith to cross the whitewash and seal the deal for Dings in injury-time.

Esher climbed out of the relegation zone with a thrilling 36-31 triumph at Leicester Lions.

A wild opening quarter saw Tom Walker kick the Eees ahead before Luke Bouchier converted tries from Chris Romano and Arthur Allen, only for the visitors to regain the lead thanks to seven-pointers from Myles Rawstron-Rudd and Henry Mortimer.

Jake Sterland’s try for Lions saw the lead change hands again, now 19-17, but Walker was on target after Ed Volley crossed to ensure Esher led at the break.

Leicester took first blood in the second period as Bouchier slotted following Johnny Murdoch’s score, but the away side pulled clear thanks to a James Botterill brace and Walker conversion.

Lions did, though, grab a second bonus-point as Jordan Tebbatt went over in stoppage time.

Bishop’s Stortford eased their bottom-three fears with a 33-19 home success against basement boys Darlington Mowden Park.

Josh Ree crossed in the second minute for DMP, Harry Read converting, but David Hayes added to Dan Powell and Tristan Smith scores for 14-7 to Stortford at the break.

The hosts’ bonus-point was secured as Isaac Bell and Chris Bolton touched down, Hayes slotting after the latter, and he did the same after Josh Stannard went over.

Mowden kept going and grabbed two late tries from front rows Alfie Barron and Max Fraine, Read converting the latter, but it was too little, too late.

Finally, Rams put in their best performance of the season to beat Blackheath 33-14.
