NATIONAL ONE ROUND-UP - WEEK 12

Rich Ashton10 Dec 2024 - 16:30

Rotherham, Sedge, Stortford, Lions and Plymouth all triumphant!

CORBEN Ollivent’s final-play drop-goal helped third-placed Rotherham Titans seal a dramatic 15-12 home win against Blackheath.

The two sides were locked at 5-5 at half-time, Jake Lloyd crossing to put the visitors in front before Aidan Shortall hit back for the Yorkshiremen.

Lloyd Hayes added to a JB Bruzulier effort to nudge Titans in front, but Lloyd’s second, converted by Tom Ffitch, looked to have salvaged a share of the spoils before Ollivent had the last word.

Sedgley Park produced the shock of the day as they beat high-flying Rosslyn Park 28-0,

A Matt Sturgess penalty gave the hosts and early lead, one extended by a Bertie Bradshaw brace, an Adam Mallinson try and five more points from the boot of Sturgess (one conversion, one pen).

Conditions favoured Park in the second period, but Tigers held firm and secured a bonus-point as Rhys Henderson touched down in the 72nd minute.

Plymouth Albion climbed to seventh in the table following their 24-14 home victory against basement boys Darlington Mowden Park.

The Ocean City’s finest were dominant in the opening 40 minutes, racking up all their points as Jake Clemson, Angus Hodges and Tom Putt all dotted down, the latter adding a conversion as his side also grabbed a penalty try for 24-0.

DMP battled gamely, Junior Newton adding to scores from Oscar Usher and Yaree Fantini, but it was not enough to prevent an 11th defeat in 12 games.

Bishop’s Stortford’s good run continued as they beat Sale 14-7.

Jos Gilmore put the Dogs’ in front, debutant Oli Davies slotting the kick, but Stortford levelled before the break thanks to Alex Gilham and Chris Bolton.

Storm Darragh continued to make conditions difficult, but the decisive moment came at the end of the third quarter when Josh Stannard went over, Dan Powell with the extras.

Leicester Lions boosted their survival hopes with a crucial 22-15 home triumph against Dings Crusaders.

Theo Mannion landed a penalty and then added to a score from Northampton Saints’ loanee Toby Cousins, fly-half Mannion then touching down himself for 15-0.

Hooker Tomas Gwilliam got Crusaders on the board before the break, but Mannion converted an Ollie Taylor try to extend the Lions’ lead.

An Alex Bilton try, converted by Jamie Elswood, kept Dings in the contest before the latter kicked to snatch a losing bonus-point.

Birmingham Moseley’s home game with Esher was postponed, while Rams went down 7-5 to Richmond in front of a record-breaking Old Bath Road crowd of 1,829.
