ROTHERHAM Titans beat champions Richmond 40-38 to keep their hopes of a runners-up finish alive.
The Londoners took an early lead as Callum Grieve converted tries from Jake Monson and Jimmy Litchfield, Rotherham replying through Ellis Thomas and Travis Gordon as Lloyd Hayes added a kick.
Sam Pim’s seven-pointer made it 21-12 at the break, but the hosts scored two in four minutes via Ronnie du Randt and John Okafor to take the lead.
An Alex O’Meara score levelled things for the table-toppers, only for converted tries by Rob Povey and Jack Townend to put Roth in command.
And while Litchfield and Pim doubled their tallies and Grieve converted the second, his last-gasp missed penalty allowed Titans to hang on.
Plymouth Albion jumped to fourth and consigned Esher to the bottom two with a dominant 59-0 victory, their tries coming from four-score Bobby Wigginton, Shea Cornish (two), Jake Clemson, Israel Akinrowo and Tom Putt, the latter adding two conversions along with Frankie Dart’s five.
Leicester Lions leapfrogged Esher and moved four points clear of the Surrey outfit following a 31-26 home success against Blackheath.
Luke Bouchier added to Mali Satala’s opener for the hosts before Club levelled through Finley Gilmour and Tom Ffitch.
A second converted Satala score and a Bouchier penalty made it 17-7 at the interval, and after Jake Hennessey went over for Blackheath, Arthur Allen responded with a seven-pointer for Lions.
Ffitch was on target after Jack Daly touched down to reduce the arrears back to five before a penalty try earned Lions a bonus-point, Club snatching two of their own with Hennessey’s late second.
Sale FC climbed above hosts Birmingham Moseley into seventh following their 35-33 triumph at Billesley Common.
The Dogs bit first as Ollie Davies added to an Osian Roberts effort, only for Mose to reply through Ollie Allsopp before Tighe Maxwell-Whiteley converted Ollie Stedman’s try for 12-7.
Sale moved back in front via Sean Street and Davies, but Birmingham led at the break after Morgan Dawes and Tom Miles went over, Maxwell-Whiteley adding to both.
Davies converted his own try to reduce the arrears to five, but Dawes’ second, supplemented by Maxwell-Whiteley, made it 33-21.
However, it was Sale who finished stronger, taking the spoils as Jake Pope dotted down and Street doubled up, Davies remaining perfect from the tee.
Bishop’s Stortford’s fast start helped them ease to a 61-24 home victory against Dings Crusaders.
The hosts raced into a 26-0 lead as Tom Mills and Isaac Bell bagged braces, Mike Cooke with a trio of conversions.
Dings got on the board as Jamie Elswood added to a Tom Gollop try, but Cooke was again on target after Will Rogers touched down.
The visitors grabbed the final converted score of the opening half through Tom Hargan, but Stortford hit back with Cooke adding to a Declan Murphy effort for 40-14.
Ezra Caven crossed for Dings before Cooke landed again after Chris Bolton’s try, Crusaders grabbing a bonus-point as Max Rivers went over.
However, Bishop’s moved past their half-century with two more converted tries from Chris Smith and Murphy.
Sedgley Park eased to a 63-24 home win against Darlington Mowden Park, despite the visitors taking an early lead through Harvey Johnston, Garry Law with the extras.
Tigers took control as Oli Glasse converted tries from the retiring Matt Riley – on his 458th cap – Lewis Bradley, Nathan Pope, Ben Gregory and Tom Ailes for 35-7, the two sides then exchanging seven-pointers from DMP’s Alfie Barron and Sedge’s Andy Riley.
Bradley’s converted second pushed the hosts further in front before Alfie Kavanagh crossed for Mowden, Glasse making it eight from eight after Tom Davis dotted down.
Rhys Jenkins ensured Darlington claimed a try bonus, but the final word went to Tigers through Gregory.
