NEW SIGNING: JACK AIMING TO RAMP THINGS UP

Jamaica Sevens star arrives at Old Bath Road!

SPEEDSTER Jack Rampton believes the coaches at Rams can help him flourish after becoming the club’s eighth summer addition.

The 6ft 4in wing trades the international Sevens circuit for Old Bath Road in a move which excites the 23-year-old, and reflecting on his signing, he began: “Being a local boy from Basingstoke, to get the chance to potentially play at a high level in National One is brilliant.

“I know some of the boys here – I’ve played some Sevens with Olise Monye, I did a bit of training at Henley with Morgan (MacRae) – and other people have recommended it, so it’s great to be here.

“It’s a top club and from the first day everyone’s been super nice, the staff, players, they’ve been nothing but kind and I’m so excited to be here and see how the season goes.”

The former Basingstoke Mini made his adult debut for Overton RFC back in the 2018/19 season and has also played for Hampshire Under 20s, the Covid break precipitating a spell playing rugby in California before he made a name on the Sevens scene.

The Jamaican international continued: “I’ve played on the World Series and at the Sevens World Cup, and pretty much every invitational team on the UK circuit!

“I’ve been to 17 countries in the past two years which has been incredible, but now’s the time for some 15-a-side.”

A strong physical presence, Jack admitted he’s willing to be a sponge to the coaches’ ideas while also revealing what the Ramily can expect to see from him.

He said: “I’m pretty tall, so I like to think being under the high ball is a key point, and then speed and power.

“I’m looking forward to improving my kicking, skills and understanding of the game and it’s nice to have coaching staff who are willing to spend time on my personal development.”

With Jack set to make his debut at Aberavon tomorrow (2.30pm), the flier cannot wait for the chance and ended: “It’s going to be nice and hopefully we can come back with a win and a few points on the board, but whatever happens it will be good to get into it.”

*Welcome to Old Bath Road Jack – we can’t wait to see you on the pitch!
