Stapleys reunited (2017), big loss to Bracknell 2nds (2000), narrow Bridgwater win (1989), 13 men edge out REME (1978) and much more!

On this day in history in…

1933 – A Thomas try converted by Hill was enough to seal a 5-0 home win against Midland Bank.

1950 – An 8-0 reverse at Old Askeans.

1961 – Two Tony Farr penalties and a try from Bywater were not enough as ORs went down 11-9 at home to Trojans.

1964 – Old Redingensians were beaten 6-0 at Reading.

1967 – Another disappointing afternoon as visitors Trojans run out 14-0 winners at Gensians.

1972 – Hosts Witney edge to a 20-16 success.

1973 – Old Redingensians were knocked out of the Berkshire Cup following a 29-4 rverse at RMCS Shrivenham.

1978 – Gensians put up a brave performance at REME Arborfield.

They played the last 20 minutes with only 13 men – after injuries to Phil Griffiths and Joe Bell – but won 12-10 thanks to a late Evelyn Daniel try.

Chris Champion also went over in the first half, and Mark Simmons landed two conversions.

1989 – Unconverted tries from Stuart Loudwell, Macky McIntyre and Hall did the damage as Redingensians edged out hosts Bridgwater & Albion 12-10.

1995 – A Martin Duncan brace and a further try from Jones – two of which were converted by Ryan Telfer – was not enough in a tight 21-19 loss at Hampstead 2nds.

2000 – Spike Henderson’s try was merely a consolation as Redingensians were thrashed 34-5 at home by Bracknell 2nds.

2017 – The Stapley brothers were reunited and a penalty try and further five-pointers from Conor Corrigan, Olly Poole, Andy Berry and Olly Foxley, added to by three Tom Humberstone conversions, led Rams to a bonus-point home win against Barnstaple.
