An insight into our newest rivals' recent form, players to watch - one with even more caps than James Baker - and more!

Year Founded: 1932

Nickname: Tigers

Ground: Park Lane (Capacity 3,000)

Current season: Second (P2 W2 01 L0 TB2 LB0 Pts 10)

Last season: Champions of National Two North (P26 W24 D1 L1 TB19 LB1 Pts 118)
Recent Form: Sublime – especially at home!

Tigers have started back in National One with a bang, producing a stunning comeback to beat pre-season title favourites Richmond 32-31 before backing it up with another bonus-point 44-21 triumph at Birmingham Moseley.

Sedgley enjoyed a fine pre-season ending with an impressive 26-26 draw with Caldy on the back of 28-5 and 38-5 victories against Llandudno and Hull Ionians respectively.

They enjoyed a stunning title-winning campaign in National Two North last time out – winning 24 of 26 games and suffering just one defeat.

Even more impressive is their record at Park Lane, though, where they have won their past 24 league matches and scoring 997 points since they last went down to Hull back in November, 2021.

Players to Watch:

Warren Seals – National One Player of the Week for Round One, the South African fly-half tops the points charts with 29 in two games for his new club.

Enjoyed Championship experience with Yorkshire Carnegie and also played for Wasps in the Premiership Cup but truly found his feet at Darlington Mowden Park in 2017.

In his first three seasons he racked up National One points tallies of 178, 185 and then a colossal 267 – the league high – before Covid hit in March 2020.

The latter earned Seals a place in both The Rugby Paper and NCA Teams of the Season before another 152 points in just 16 games arrived when rugby returned before a serious injury saw him spend more than a year out before his stunning resurrection so far this term.

Matt Riley – Club-record league cap-holder with a staggering 417 to his name, the inside centre was on the scoresheet to round out victory at Moseley last time out and has been at the club for some two decades.

Andrew Riley – Full-back and Matt’s younger brother has been picked in the Rugby Paper Team of the Season for the past two years, scoring 18 and 17 tries respectively.
Has already got two in as many games this term, and going back to the start of 2016, an astonishing 101 in 143 games for the Tigers.

Fellow back-three man and Lancashire ace Rhys Henderson is in fact even more prolific in recent times, with 46 five-pointers in his past 50 matches for Sedgley, while former England Counties hooker Dan Maher has 50 in 79!
