A gutsy performance on the road was not enough to overcome a classy display by the home side.

Rams took an early lead courtesy of a Josh Collis turnover feeding a classic Greg Illingworth try, and squared the scores with a try from Collis just before half-time. The first 15 minutes of the second half was all Rams as Chinnor Falcons withstood a barrage of assaults on their own try line. But the men in black & white held firm and once they regained possession and territory of their own they showed why they are promotion favourites this year with some slick handling that opened up their opposition’s defence three more times to gain what was in the end a comfortable 36-14 bonus point win.

Rams take lots of positives from this game, especially with new boys Collis and Thomas making their debuts. The defence held firm and the scrum had ascendancy for the fourth game in succession, although for the first time their season, there was no penalty try from the set-piece. It was an inability to keep their own possession that sowed the seeds of Rams destruction, a strong team like Chinnor will eventually break down any defence if they have the ball for long enough to do it.

Rams’ Titans were also on the road on Saturday at Westcombe Park where they secured a solid 24-15 away win. They now sit second in D2 of the Zoo Sports Shield, 3 points behind Hertford who have played an extra game. The new coaching and management set-up of Paddy Conlon (Forwards Coach), Spike Chandler (Backs Coach), Rob Dyer (Team Manager) and long-term Titans supporter Gary MacGregor have high aspirations for the side this year, and rightly so. There is lots of talent throughout our senior squad and expectations are riding high.
