REACTION: PADDY DELIGHTED AS TITANS SIGN OFF IN STYLE!

Coach hails 'great performance' following win at Henley!

TITANS coach Paddy Conlon was delighted with his side as they surged to a convincing 73-12 win against Henley Bulls in his last game before taking a break from the sport.

A first-half Mana Cakau double, added to by three more tries including efforts from Andy Amor and James McRae, gave Titans a 31-0 lead at the break, Steffan James with three conversions.

Skipper Josh Collis, Alex Sparkes, Amor, Jamar Richardson, debutant Dave Few and Kieran Leicester all went over after the interval as Alex Seers showed his class with six conversions from six, including a trio of touch-line stunners.

And a delighted Paddy stated: “It was a great performance. We turned up with a team we thought was quite strong and we played even better than maybe we expected.

“We had some new faces come in which is always nice and bodes well for next year, and it was very well captained by Josh. I saw him in tears as it was the last game of the season!

“It was also nice to have Amor and Jamar in the centres, they’re two players who we all know can do well if the choose to, so all in all, I was very happy.”

He continued: “We started off very well, went ahead, and while we let them creep back into it (in the third quarter), that always happens at the end of the season.

“The scrum was excellent and I thought Ryan Lomas was impressive along with the front row, James McRae coming off the back of it made some hard yards and the forwards as a whole were very good.

“There was the nice mix of experience and youth and it was also great to see Alex Seers get through 40 minutes, there’s no getting away from how class he is.

“And another old stalwart, Niall Kidd, did 20 – I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone despite being asked to come off. He’s a big strong boy who will be back in the first-team next season.”

The Titans have come a long way during Paddy’s time at the helm, earning promotion to Division One of the Raging Bull Shield and establishing themselves capable of beating anyone.

Paddy revealed: “We’ve got a good strong team and that stems from what’s happened throughout the club – Seb, Owen and Danny are doing so well with the first team and that attracts players, and then it filters down from there.

“It would also be interesting to do some statistical analysis to see how many players have started in the Titans and gone onto play in the first team – it will be high.”

And while he intends to take time away from the sport, he admitted the door remains ajar, ending: “It will be nice to have a break, but I imagine come October when I ask my wife what we’re going to do, she’ll just say get down to rugby!”

*Everyone at Rams would like to thank Paddy for his efforts with the Titans!
