REACTION: POZ HAPPY TO PICK UP SCRAPPY STORTFORD SUCCESS

Wing scored crucial try in narrow win at Silver Leys!

MATCHWINNER Tomek Pozniak admitted he is loving life at Rams after his second-half try proved decisive in a 10-6 National One victory at Bishop’s Stortford.

Axel Kalling-Smith had earlier fired the visitors in front as Silver Leys was lashed with rain, only for two Mike Cooke penalties to nudge the Hertfordshire men in front before the break.

With the weather improving and the sun out, Polish international Poz – who had twice come close before – wriggled over on the left following sustained Rams’ pressure.

It was a fifth try in five appearances for the summer signing, and despite Stortford trying to launch a late rally, the away side held firm to record a sixth straight win to start the season.

Poz confessed: “It was a tough, hard-fought battle. We’re very happy to get the win and to keep them from scoring a try.

“It was a huge defensive effort to keep them to just the two penalties, especially in the middle third.

“They’re a very tidy side who always felt a threat – you know they want to attack up the middle, but they can go out wide as well – and they were difficult to manage.”

Before scoring Poz had just failed to get the ball down in time as he chased his own chip, and also nearly collected a cross-field kick on the 22 which would have left him a clear path to the line.

He added: “It was a shame (for the first) – I slowed up a bit because I thought the ball was going to sit up and then it just rolled away from me. But I’m very happy with how it’s going, loving it.

“The lads are getting some great go-forward ball and I’m lucky enough to get on the end of some of them.”

Rams host fourth-placed Birmingham Moseley at Old Bath Road on Saturday (3pm).
