RFU confirm final league positions for 2019/20

RFU confirm final league positions for 2019/20

Rams Info6 Apr 2020 - 16:06

John Cook, our former Club Secretary, applies the RFU methodology and shows how RAMS 1st XV finished in 2nd place in National One.

Following the early end of the rugby season in England as a result of COVID-19, it was agreed that final standings for the Greene King IPA Championship and men’s and women’s community game would be calculated on a best playing record formula maintaining promotion and relegation for those leagues.

For our teams this gives a final position of:
RAMS 1st XV - 2nd place in National League One
The Centaurs RAMS 3rd XV - 6th place in BBO1
The Dragon's Teeth RAMS 4th XV - 4th place in BBO2

We are waiting for the final agreed league positions for The Titans (2nd XV), The Horde (5th XV and The Sirens (Womens 1st XV)

1. Richmond - 116.44 (Promoted to Championship)
2. Rams - 107.79
3. Rosslyn Park - 107.21

14. Rotherham - 48.85 (R)
15. Canterbury - 18.85 (R)

Congratulations to Richmond who will be promoted back to the Greene King IPA Championship for 2020/21. Coming down are Yorkshire Carnegie who finished bottom of the Championship. Unfortunately Rotherham, Canterbury and Hull Ionians will be relegated to National 2 South/North. We are looking forward to reuniting with former Nat 2 South rivals, Taunton Titans and Tonbridge Juddians, who are promoted to National One. Also promoted to Nat 1 after a great season is Caldy, Champions of National Two North.

John Cook's calculation on our finish in NAT 1 based on the RFU methodology
Take the team’s average points per game for home and away fixtures played.
Apply this to all outstanding games.
Add to league points at 16th March.

Rams home points were 45 in 12 games equals 3.75 average.
Rams away points were 49 in 13 games equals 3.77 average.
3 remaining home games times 3.75 equals 11.25 points
2 remaining away games times 3.77 equals 7.54 points

45 + 49 + 11.25 +7.54 = 112.79
Less 5 points deduction = 107 79
