IT is with sadness I report the passing of ‘Sid’.
He was known to many of us at Rams and was always by my side at both home and away matches as Redingensians progressed up the leagues and became the Rams we all now love and enjoy.
Sid was born in Cullompton, Devon, and took up playing rugby at Tiverton Grammar school.
He later played for Cullompton at tight-head prop and was the Club Secretary for many years as well as groundsman, kit washer and tea provider.
On moving to Wokingham to take up a post as civil engineer with Berkshire County Council, Sid would come to Old Bath Road as an occasional spectator.
He quickly got involved and coached with Graham Frost in the juniors and would watch most of the games I was playing in - he was my fiercest critic!
Sid came everywhere with me on Saturdays and loved meeting our opposition Presidents etc.
He was one of the founding members of the Friday Club and looked after the pitches
at OBR for many years.
You would often find him struggling with the irrigation system, moving it single-handedly across the pitch well into his 70s.
Sid was a great family man who was known as Dandan to his seven grand-children and his many great grand-children.
He was a true gentleman in every sense and will be missed by us all.
