Despite hurricane strength winds and downpours 21 young(er) players and Redingensians’ very own Peter Pan, Frankie Richardson, took to the field to play an 11-a-side game between the reds and the blues. The Browns won at the end of the day.
It was great to see current students spanning all three year University Years playing together and thanks go to Andrew Gorman and Seb Reynolds for supplying (and Andrew for playing!) a few Titans and older ex-Students without whom the 15 students who played would have been consigned to a game of Sevens in the rain!
The game was played in great spirit despite the adverse conditions. There were some flashes of quality in offence and defence. It was great to see some lads back who aren’t currently playing and I hope they will be inspired to find some rugby local to their University so they can keep playing.
Thanks go to Jeff the Ref without whom, etc; to Jason and Big Pete for organising the sides; giving encouraging advice from the touchline and dispensing occasional first aid plus jelly babies at half-time; to all the parents and friends of the club who turned up to watch; to Victoria who masterminded the culinary delights that awaited the players upon their return also to Jenny and Pam for their support and help in the kitchen and washing-up; and to Ian for opening the clubhouse and manning the bar for the much-needed alcoholic refreshments before, during and after the game.
