FORMER Mini Lucy Simpson scored her first Women’s Premiership try to help Gloucester-Hartpury move top of the table with a 36-19 home win against Loughborough Lightning.
One of the most successful products of the Rams’ junior section, the hooker – who has played for England Under 18s in the past two Six Nations – collected an overthrown line-out before powering over from the visitors’ 22 for her side’s third score and a 19-5 half-time lead.
The teenager, who started for the first time and was named player of the match having completed the full 80 minutes, told the Gloucester website: “It was a great game, very physical, and the girls did the job in front of a good crowd.
“It was great to get on the scoresheet – I didn’t expect the ball to be overthrown, but I saw it, caught it and then just ran over the line.
“I’m so grateful to play the whole game and hopefully there’ll be more in the future.”
