ROWAN Grundy starts at fly-half as one of four changes for RAMS as they travel to Cinderford for tomorrow’s eagerly anticipated National One encounter (3pm).
The ex-Reading University stand-off, who broke into the first team just before Christmas last year, has returned to full fitness and is ready to partner Ollie Cole in the half backs for the imposing trip to the Forest of Dean.
Grundy’s inclusion means Will Partington switches to full-back, with the remainder of the three-quarters the same as those named in the hard-fought 27-24 reverse to Sale last time out.
This means Axel Kalling-Smith and Ellis Jones are together in midfield, with Henry Bird and RAMS’ top try-scorer this season Jak Rossiter on the wings, the latter just two behind Cinderford’s league-leading Nathan Taylor with 13 to his name.
Up front, Taylor’s counterpart at hooker Ben Henderson – himself having clocked up the milestone of 50 RAMS’ tries last week – and the irrepressible James Baker step up from the bench to join ever-present loose-head prop Ant Marris in the front row.
Connor Stapley and Dan Swain are again paired together in the second row, with the final adjustment to the starting line-up coming with Lucas Brooke on the open-side flank.
Alongside him in the back row are skipper Robbie Stapley at No. 8, and one of the players of the season to date, James McRae, who is awarded the vice-captaincy to go with his position on the blind-side.
On the bench Sean McDonnell-Roberts has been playing some of his best rugby of his career and covers both sides of the front row, while Ollie Moffitt starred with two tries for the Titans against the RAF on Wednesday evening.
The versatile Josh Collis is another in fine form to complete the forwards’ replacements, while scrum-half Ollie Allan and fly-half or full-back Tim Townsend have added impact from both the start and the bench in the past few weeks.
With their being no Titans game, three travelling reserves are named in the form of bull-dozing prop Niall Kidd, hooker Max Hayman and scrum-half Ollie Monye, the latter looking right back to his best during a try-scoring display against the RAF.
