TEAM NEWS: JONES RETURNS FOR FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Rich Ashton8 Sep 2023 - 11:00

Marris also back on the bench as Rams take on Chinnor!

RAMS make just one change to their starting line-up for tonight’s eagerly anticipated National One floodlit derby against Chinnor.

It comes at outside centre where Ellis Jones is restored to partner vice-captain Drew Humberstone in midfield, the Welshman’s return meaning Axel Kalling-Smith reverts to the left wing with the back three rounded out by last season’s top scorer Jak Rossiter and full-back Henry Bird.

Cornwall captain Fraser Honey retains his fly-half jersey after a fine debut against Birmingham Moseley, Ollie Cole inside him as they look to get the back line flowing.

The youthful front row of Paddy Harris, hooker Max Hayman – a try-scorer on his 50th cap last weekend – and tight-head Paul Englezos are supported from behind by centurion Connor Stapley and the man-of-the-match against Moseley, the outstanding Dan Swain.

Captain Robbie Stapley again leads the side from No. 8, joined in the back row by debutant try-scorer Mike Hoyt on the blind-side and last year’s Players’ Player of the Season, James McRae.

There is one further change among the substitutes, Ant Marris returning to provide prop cover alongside the evergreen scrummaging master James Baker – the latter having provided the highlight of any floodlit match between the two clubs with his stunning break at Old Bath Road back in February.

Ben Atkins enjoyed a dream debut with two tries against Birmingham and will again be ready to add impetus from the bench, while the final two replacements also crossed the whitewash six days ago.

Zach Clow covers the back three having made it seven tries in nine appearances with the final score of the game last time out, while scrum-half Ollie Monye continued his superb form of last season with an eye-catching display which saw him set-up Atkins for his second before a stunning solo try.
