TOP TRY-SCORERS: BIRDY AND TOM SHARE THE TITLE!

The full list of the 25 who combined to score our 108 National One tries!

VICE-CAPTAIN Tom Vooght and flying wing Henry Bird both grabbed four tries in the final five games of the season to end up locked on top of the charts with 14 apiece to their names.

With both on 10 going into April, Tom nudged his way in front with a score at home to Birmingham Moseley before a double in the 29-17 triumph at Blackheath.

However, Birdy’s stunning 15-minute hat-trick at Chinnor levelled matters, and he put himself back at the head of the table against Cambridge before Vooghty also went over to ensure he shared the title for the third time in four seasons (15 with penalty tries in 2017/18 and 12 with Jak Rossiter in the Covid-shortened 2019/20 campaign).

Connor Hayhow’s second hat-trick of the season on the final day followed a try against Moseley, helping him into double figures for the first time at Old Bath Road and giving him 12 for the campaign and 20 in total.

Skipper Robbie Stapley found a rich vein of try-scoring form towards the back of the season and scores against Moseley, Blackheath and Chinnor gave him 10 for the season, also nudging him up to 93 for Rams and just eight behind all-time leader Jez Flynn.

Hooker Max Hayman – who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign before captaining Berkshire in their 37-21 home win against Middlesex last Saturday – ended with eight tries after he touched down against Birmingham at the start of the month, a tally matched by penalty tries following the effort at home to champions Caldy.

Jak also scored against the eventual winners as he closed the campaign with five tries, and 58 in total during a season in which he played his 100th game for the club.

Ollie Cole, Jamie Guttridge and Ollie Taylor all finished on four tries, while Michael Dykes – who got better and better as the season went on – crossed against both Blackheath and Caldy to join Ben Henderson and Ellis Jones on three.

Drew Humberstone doubled his tally in the late loss at Chinnor, Kieran Leicester, Ollie Moffitt and Charlie Robson also with two apiece, while Stevie Bryant grabbed his sole score of the season in the same game before Ollie Monye went over for his maiden Rams’ try against Cambridge.

Stevie and Ollie were joined in the seasonal one-try club by Vince Everitt, Rowan Grundy, Tarek Haffar, Ant Marris, James McRae and Connor Stapley.

In total, Rams scored 108 tries in their 28 games, while conceding 80.
