TOP-SCORING GAMES NO. 25 (PART ONE) - 65!

Two Taunton epics and hat-tricks for Owen and Saunders!

Taunton 30-35 Rams (November 17, 2018)

An amazing fightback saw Rams overturn a 17-point deficit to snatch one of their best victories of the National Two South title-winning season.

The visitors made a perfect start after being awarded an early penalty try, only for Taunton to rally in amazing fashion by securing a bonus-point through scores from Oscar Kolowski, Ollie Rice (two) and skipper Nick Mason. With Gary Kingdom landing a pair of conversions, they led 24-7.

However, Rams cut the gap with a converted Ben Henderson try before the break, and they were given a major boost when Barrie-John Chapman was dismissed for a punch on Jamie Guttridge early in the second period.

It was the victim who crashed over soon after, Alex Seers adding the extras, before a Kingdom penalty made it 27-21.

Yet a second penalty try and then a Sean McDonnell-Roberts effort gave Rams a 35-27 advantage with nine minutes remaining, and seemingly safe.

However, a Kingdom penalty on 76 minutes gave the hosts hope, and it took a marvellous Rams rear-guard to hold out a late driving maul to hang on for the win.

Taunton 33-32 Rams (April 29, 2017)

Some 19 months earlier it was Taunton who had snatched glory in another classic, rounding out the 2017/18 campaign.

Kingdom converted an early Freddie Fraser try before Jacob Atkins cut the gap with a penalty, only for Taunton to pull away thanks to a Conor Harbison score.

Yet Rams rallied with 18 unanswered points before the break, Tom Vooght first going over at the back of a rolling maul before Atkins knocked over the conversion and landed a penalty, and Conor Corrigan also had an effort improved to put the visitors 20-12 in front at the break.

However, the topsy-turvey nature of the contest continued after the break as the away side wrested control, crossing for three tries through Arron Gibbs, Fraser and Sam Prior which Kingdom converted. With a quarter of the the game remaining, Titans were 33-20 up.

Desperate not to finish on a losing note, Rams hit back with scores from Craig Nightingale and James Baker, the latter converted by Atkins, but they could not land the final blow and ended the season in sixth place.

Rams 50-15 Worcester Wanderers (March 8, 2014)

A brilliant hat-trick from George Owen inspired Rams to a handsome home win, Stevie Bryant and Josh Smith also bagging braces in an eight-try rout.

Andy Amor also crossed the whitewash, with James Brooks landing four conversions and Andy Bryans one.

Rams 55-10 Slough (September 10, 2005)

A Ben Saunders hat-trick was the highlight of a nine-try destruction from the eventual Southern Counties South champions.

Rob Castell grabbed a double and Andy Fairweather, Seb Reynolds, Stuart Mills and JJ Bell also dotted down, while Andy Webb landed three conversions and Andy Amor two.

Rams 7-58 Wimborne (September 21, 1996)

Understrength Gensians crashed heavily in Southern Counties South.

They conceded four tries in the last 1t5 minutes after being overwhelmed by the heavy home pack.

It was only 12-7 at the end of the first half after Shane Tawera put the visitors on the scoreboard with a superb individual effort.

The No. 8 broke from the base of the scrum, lost control of the ball after breaking the first tackle, but skilfully regathered to go over.

Matt Gray added the extras, but that was as good as it got for the hosts.
