U10 Most Improved Player Award

U10 Most Improved Player Award

David Paradise21 Dec 2012 - 08:09

Aha! so this is how you play rugby.

Generally its been a good season for the players in the squad. With many in there second, third or fourth year at the club we have seen a great improvement in all aspects of the squad.

There are all growing up and maturing, their knowledge of the game is improving each week and they are now starting to work as a team and not trying to take on everything themselves.

We have had a few injury's which has meant some players have been out for a long time this season. ( Not rugby related injury's)

Rugby is long term development game, players grow and mature at different times, players shine and then others come forward to shine brighter. My hope is to keep as many of the squad playing rugby all the way through to Juniors and then move into the Senior teams. Hopefully a few will be able to play at county level and then you never know where they may end up.

We have a great squad and we can see them improving all the time.

Most Improved Player

It was a close run thing this year with four or five players looking likely contenders for the most improved player.

By November we had narrowed it down to two.

And it took the last two training sessions to work out who we thought should be awarded it this year.

Our award for 2012 goes to Josh Lewis.

Josh has been with us since the start of U9s. We could always see he had potential from the start.

He has matured this season and has played some great rugby, last season he lacked the knowledge of the game and was someone who had a short attention span at training, sometimes more interested in digging up the mud and looking for worms

Josh came on tour to Burnham and it was in his last game game that something clicked, Neil and myself saw that light bulb moment when we saw him make some good tackles and score a great try. You could see the joy in his face and also that moment when he must have thought, aha! this is how you play rugby.

His enthusiasm has continued this season and with has consistent tackling we have moved him into a more central position. He was one of the first to be awarded a Tackling Sock.

He has listened and taken on board what he has been taught and has made a great contribution to the squad.

You have now joined the most improved player of the year club and we will be looking for you to continue and improve further.

Well deserved Josh.
