RAMS are delighted to announce record-breaking World Cup final referee Wayne Barnes will be the guest speaker at the club’s Centenary Ball on Saturday, June 29.
An international centurion, no referee has taken control of more test matches, while Wayne has also overseen 213 Premiership games (including 10 finals) and officiated at 17 Six Nations tournaments.
He retired having been in command of South Africa’s victory against New Zealand in November – his 21st World Cup game across five tournaments – and also works as a criminal barrister and media pundit.
A former Rugby Speaker of the Year, Wayne has plenty of tales to tell from cheating, fighting, death threats, controversy, failure, and success, varying from the sublime to the ridiculous – he once had to leave a stadium in disguise in the back of an ambulance!
With contacts across the sporting world including football, cricket, tennis and more, he has funny, informative and at times unbelievable stories from behind the scenes at some of the world’s biggest sporting events, making him the ideal man to help kick-start what will be a famous year for Rams.
