Solo shines as hosts climb to second after convincing win!

TEN different Rams Titans players crossed the whitewash as the hosts defeated Blackheath Heathens 66-0 in their HALBRO Raging Bull Shield Division One clash, climbing to second in the table.

Spencer Hayhow opened the scoring as he followed up his stunning four-score effort against Ampthill 1881 with a close-range try coming on the back of a couple of pick-and-goes close to the line.

Tim Townsend made no mistake with the conversion, and he doubled his tally after Joe Booth touched down to make it 14-0.

The third try was a sublime finish from Sam Rennell, the wing finishing off a flowing backs move involving Booth, Tim Townsend, Solo Radianirova and Charlie Robson as he just managed to stay in-field before getting the ball down on the right.

The bonus-point was secured on the other flank as Radianirova produced a magnificent solo effort, the Fijian Army man receiving the ball on the halfway line before combining pace and power to beat four would-be defenders and touching down under the posts, Townsend with the simplest of conversions for 26-0.

Things got even better for the hosts before the break as two long-serving stalwarts of the club combined, Ross Crame’s fine off-load to Stevie Bryant on the Blackheath 22 leading to a fabulous finish from the outside centre who danced past a couple of tacklers before throwing a dummy and stepping the full-back for a try added to by Townsend.

Titans showed no sign of letting off after the interval, and added to their tally when Townsend’s sublime chip was caught by Robson to go over to the left of the uprights.

The creator knocked over the conversion for 40-0, and replacement Mana Cakau became the seventh Titan to cross the whitewash as he went over from close range.

Townsend landed another straight-forward kick, and the half-century was reached as the ageless Andy Amor gave the hosts front foot ball in the Heathens’ 22 before a strong carry from Terrel Harry allowed Declan Murphy to spread the ball wide to Hayhow and then Roan Noone for a score on the left.

As the clock ticked down play became increasingly loose, and the outstanding and selfless Radianirova gave up the chance of a maiden treble, firstly getting within five metres of the Blackheath line before letting Townsend dot down, and then actually crossing the whitewash before handing the ball to Craig Nightingale for the final score – Townsend adding the extras to both.

Titans sit 10 points behind leaders Ampthill with four games due to be played at home to Henley Bulls and Chinnor Falcons (dates to be confirmed), Richmond Vikings (March 25) and at Esher Cardinals on the final day of the season (April 22).
