RAMS ground out a hard-fought 26-10 home success against Bishop’s Stortford to make it a super six bonus-point wins from six to start their National One campaign.
The visitors suffered an early setback as Toby Tierney was sin-binned following a series of penalties inside his side’s 22, Max Hayman then picking up his sixth try of the season as he rode over at the back of a Rams’ maul.
Fraser Honey added the extras, and despite losing Vince Everitt to a yellow card, the hosts extended their lead with a moment of magic, James McRae bursting down the right before a magnificent Ant Marris pass freed Jak Rossiter to cross in clubhouse corner.
A fairly nondescript opening half ended with the home side leading 12-0, Bishop’s Stortford gaining a foothold on 49 minutes as Chris Bolton landed a penalty.
However, after Ollie Jones was carded for a dangerous tackle, Rams moved further in front with a lovely Zach Clow try, the full back taking a pass on the right following a Fraser Honey half-break.
And the bonus-point was secured early in the final quarter, Ollie Cole racing in from 60 metres following a turnover in midfield.
The visitors grabbed a late consolation via Jones, Connor Lloyd converting, but it proved too little, too late.
