Visitors secure bonus-point win after power-packed display!

IMPRESSIVE Rams returned to winning ways with an emphatic 38-14 National One victory at Cinderford.

The visitors came flying out of the blocks with a blistering start, a trademark dominant maul ending with Max Hayman touching down on the left for a try Fraser Honey was unable to convert.

Cinderford showed some intent from the restart, Tom Samak making a break in midfield, but the away side dealt with the danger well and then went up the other end for Hayman to repeat his earlier trick, the hooker extending his lead at the top of the divisional try-scoring with a 22nd of the campaign.

Honey knocked over a fine kick for 12-0 inside 10 minutes, and things got even better shortly after as Rams – playing at a tempo their opponents struggled to deal with – collected a third try when a fine line from Connor Stapley and some good hands from the second row and Rowan Grundy send Zach Clow in on the right.

Another nice conversion from Honey gave the visitors further control, and while the Foresters again responded – Stapley yellow carded for a deliberate knock-on before a home maul was held up over the line – it was Rams who wrapped up the bonus-point before the interval.

On this occasion a close-range line-out didn’t go to hand, but man-of-the-match Ben Atkins swept up the loose ball before powering over for a 24-0 half-time advantage.

The visitors continued where they left off after the break, a remarkable score starting when Ollie Monye, who enjoyed an excellent game at scrum-half, fly-hacked a spilt ball to Honey.

Ellis Jones then made metres before releasing Charlie Robson, and the wing’s perfectly weighted kick allowed him to dive over on the left, Honey with a cracking touchline conversion.

The game began to settle with fewer chances before replacement Calum Scott re-emphasised what a dynamic young talent he is, the former London Irishman blasting his way through a couple of tackles from the Cinderford 22.

Honey made no mistake for 38-0, but it was the home side who had the final word as firstly Tom Knight darted under the posts, the substitute drop-kicking the conversion.

And after Dan Swain was sin-binned for a high tackle, Cinderford kicked to the corner and earned a penalty try when their rumbling maul was stopped illegally on the right.

However, it was too little, too late, with the visitors remaining five points behind Chinnor – who battered Bishop’s Stortford 80-10 – with four games to play.

Rams return to Old Bath Road when Blackheath are the visitors next Saturday (3pm).
