The Rams were in command as they earned a 31 – 15 victory over Taunton, delighting the Old Bath Road supporters, who witnessed their team beating Taunton for the first time in this league.
An 18-year-old Joe Booth scored on his debut start as they Rams put five tries past the Titans to secure a bonus point win.
Head coach Seb Reynolds shared his thoughts with us after the game saying, ‘I thought it was a really good game of rugby, both teams took knocks and the collisions on the pitch were frightening at times. Both teams put a great effort in defensively and credit must go to our defence today as we did a good job of shutting down a really dangerous Taunton side. Our attack also looked really good and I’m really happy with the momentum we created. Our set piece was outstanding and James Baker at tight head prop had a phenomenal game. Joe Booth made his debut today at scrum half, he’s only 18 years old and has only been playing school rugby in the last six months, but he’s been absolutely brilliant and congratulations to him on his first game.’

Taunton put the first points on the board with an early penalty kick, only for the Rams to dominate over the next five minutes eventually securing a well deserved try through Guttridge following a series of pick up and drives.
Rams enjoyed the majority of the possession for the rest of the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough until, with moments to go in the half; Baker drove to earn the Rams their second try of the afternoon. Souter converted the try to take the Rams into the break with a 12- 3 lead.

The Rams began the second half the brighter of the two sides, camping themselves in Taunton’s 22 and eventually winning a scrum five metres out, a position from which the Rams had been dangerous in recent weeks.
Once again the scrum came to fruition as the Reading men powerfully ploughed towards Taunton’s try line, and some quick thinking from Booth allowed him to take the ball out the back of the scrum and run round the blindside, diving over the line for a try on his debut. The Rams looked as if they might add further to their score immediately after the kick off as Richardson received the ball and ran half the length of the pitch, popping the ball off to Rossiter who was tackled, thwarting the Rams momentum and leading to a period of stalemate over the next ten minutes.
Following this, the Rams continuously knocked on the door of the Taunton try line, with numerous chances, but they were unable to get through a firm Titans defence to make these chances reflect on the scoreboard. Their efforts did eventually paid dividends when the Rams demonstrated skillful, fast paced handling to whip the ball to Corrigan on the wing who flew over the try line with blistering pace to secure a bonus point try for the Rams.
In the last 15 minutes of the game the two sides traded blows, earning alternating tries with a penalty try for the Rams and two for the Titans. But the Titans were unable to secure further points and at full time the Rams had earned a bonus point win.
The Rams will be in action again on Saturday 7th April travelling away to Bury St Edmunds, kick off is at 3pm.
