Rams put in a glowing 50 point performance on a gloomy day, as the rain poured down in Birmingham.

The Reading men enjoyed a steady stream of tries spread throughout the game as they swept aside Birmingham and Solihull in harsh conditions, for their most emphatic win of the season with the final score coming at 53 – 0.

The torrential rain was not enough to dampen Rams head coach, Seb Reynolds’, spirits, having witnessed his side bulldoze their way to yet another victory on the road, as he spoke after the game saying, “ The performance of the entire squad was very good today. The conditions provided a very difficult test against a Birmingham side coming off the back of an impressive away win against Barnes the previous week.
We knew we had to secure a solid platform as their scrum and line out is very good. The pack was outstanding at the set and never took a backward step. In inclement weather sometimes the backs can be found trying to stay warm but they were excellent, full of energy and enthusiasm and always in the game. Alex Seers tactical kicking was first class.
Credit must go to forwards coach Owen Root and defence coach Danny Batty, the game was won through platform and pressure.
On days like this I believe you have to have fundamental reasons for playing the game. Matches in the freezing cold aren’t always enjoyable but the players’ togetherness was there to see and came through in spades. I believe this happens when you have a team that truly gets on with one other and has been together for a long time; it’s nice to be a part of it. However, that game is now done and next week is another challenge against a dangerous side in London Irish Wild geese.”

The Bees came out the more fired up of the two sides, flying in with some hard tackles immediately from kick off, but it did not take long for the Rams to establish their dominance.
Just before the ten-minute mark, against the run of play the Rams advanced through the pace of Corrigan, with Richardson finishing off the move, following a mistake from the home side, he kicked the ball over the line and pounced on it for the first try of the afternoon.

The Rams went on to control the rest of the first half, securing their bonus point try before the break with yet another try from joint league top try scorer Ben Henderson, in typical Rams fashion as they went through the phases following a penalty line out.

The Rams came out in the second half as they had left off in the first, not willing to let up despite their lead, as they drove from a penalty scrum and as the ball came out to Seers he cleverly kicked to the corner and it was gathered brilliantly thanks to the electric pace of Corrigan who scored in the corner. This lead to a flurry of Rams tries coming from Crame and Illingworth, followed by a period of stalemate between the two sides as the men from Birmingham seemed to finally be finding a foothold in the game.

In the final ten minutes the Rams were inspired to push for even more tries as a substitution signaled the return of Robbie Stapley from injury, and it worked as the Rams secured two more tries, one coming by way of a penalty try, and the final try coming, rather fittingly, from Stapley himself as the Rams yet again retained their spot at the top of the table.
